Beard Care

A well-maintained beard is a statement of discipline and style. Master the fundamentals of shaping, conditioning, and growing a beard that works for your face.

Overview

The fundamentals of a great beard

Whether you favour a close-cropped stubble or a full, sculpted beard, the principles are the same: clean lines, healthy hair, and consistent upkeep. A beard that looks effortless is almost always the product of effort.

Techniques

Three pillars of beard maintenance

Shaping & Trimming

Define your neckline and cheek lines before trimming the body of the beard. Clean edges make even a full beard look intentional.

  • Neckline: two fingers above the Adam's apple
  • Trim with the grain first, then against for density
  • Use scissors for mustache precision

Conditioning & Hydration

Beard hair is coarser than scalp hair and draws moisture from the skin beneath. A consistent conditioning routine prevents itch and flaking.

  • Apply beard oil daily after washing
  • Beard balm for hold and deeper moisture
  • Wash beard 2–3 times per week maximum

Growth & Patience

Most beard styles require 4–8 weeks before they can be properly shaped. Resist the urge to trim too early.

  • Let it grow for 4 weeks before shaping
  • Biotin and adequate sleep support growth
  • Patchiness often fills in past the 6-week mark

The Sartorial Standard

A great beard doesn't grow — it's built, day by day.
